Bôhachi bushidô: Poruno jidaigeki aka Bohachi Bushido: Clan of the Forgotten Eight - Teruo Ishii - Japan - (1973)
Plot by Imdb: "Bohachi Bushido is the story of an ex-samurai named Shiro. Believing life and death to be the same hell, he tries to kill himself by jumping into a river. A very hard man to kill, Shiro is revived by members of the Clan of the Forgotten Eight- an organization of men and women who have discarded god, servitude, loyalty, trust, propriety, justice, conscience, and shame. The Forgotten Eight run Japan's cruel sex industry and they recruit Shiro to rid them of their competition. Shiro agrees to work for them, more out of boredom than any real convictions."
Teruo Ishii. Again ? YES ! And we're not done yet with that man! This forgotten master of Japanese deviant cinema does it again in this Pinku / Chambara, with a lot of style. Every shot is carefully framed and the costumes and sets are gorgeous. Mythical actor Tetsuro Tamba (how do you call someone who's being acting in all these movies: "Kwaidan", "The executioner II (with Sonny Chiba)", "Graveyard of Honnor" (the Miike version), "Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky"(pure insane Cat III from HK) and some movies from Master Kinji Fukasaku ? I call him mythical.) is perfect in the main role, very low key performance (as his character is a desperate man) but very efficient at the same time. Few psychedelic effects in this one but great combat choreography. I especially liked the "naked women versus the Ninja Master" fight, with is nothing but exploitation in motion and, of course, the last fight of Shiro against 147 opponents. Impressive work by Teruo Ishii, in this very balanced movie, that never goes too far in a way or another, and keep you interested all along. Another classic !

Kyûketsu Shôjo tai Shôjo Furanken aka Vampire Girl VS Frankenstein Girl -Yoshihiro Nishimura / Naoyuki Tomomatsu - Japan - (2009)
Plot by Imdb:"Transfer student Monami has a secret and a past that has caught up with Mizushima. Deceiving Mizushima into eating a token gift of chocolate, laced with her blood, he is then catapulted into Monami's vampire world of blood, death and love. Jilted girlfriend Keiko has other ideas. With a sudden twist of fate, she is then transformed into the hideous and unforgiving Frankenstein Girl, and the battle for Mizushima's heart begins."
Un-fucking-believable ! This movie is such a treat for the comedy-gore fans. A full force Ero Guro fest , splatter all over, references from Japanese tradition mixed with Western, unbelievable bad taste in humor (the black girl club), let it all go action (more anime than movie like) and of course a lot of false schoolgirls. For once in a Sushi Typhoon production, I truly enjoyed every moment of it and will always remember some sequences that cannot be forgotten: the inter-school wrist cutting competition (!!), the insane duo of Frankenstein and his sexy psycho nurse dancing like Funkadelik for 5 minutes (without any reasons), the fabulous weapon of the old janitor, Igor: a thoracic cage with ribs and a spine, etc...
If you really want ot discover the insanity of Nishimura and his friends from Sushi Typhoon, this is the one to watch (along with Tokyo Gore Police).

Blacula - William Crain - USA - (1972)
Plot by Imdb: "Interior decorators buy the coffin of an African prince bitten by Dracula centuries before and bring it back to Los Angeles. The African prince starts feeding his hunger while following a woman who looks like his departed wife."
Ahhhhh, Blacula ! The blaxploitation version of the classic vampire tale, redone for black audience in the 70's and relocated in L.A. With a title like "Blacula", you know you're in for a treat. And it is one, costumes straight from the freakiest 70's style, romantic plot and eternal damnation of the disco-funk. The surprising thing is the serious of William Marshall, playing the dead Count. He will later have the main part of the Bishop in the Blaxploitation remake of "The Exorcist" called "Abby". In "Blacula", his interpretation has more to do with Bela Lugosi than with Christopher Lee but, strangely, in this maelstrom of flashy seventy exuberance, it works. His impossible love story is almost touching. On the other hand, some sequences are hilarious...and super cheap, almost like a bad TV series. But it's such a classic from the blaxploitation years that you have to see it. Make yourself an "Afro", get into your flared trousers, lights the disco ball but watch out, as in the shadows is Blacula, looking to make you his servant for eternity.
