Un-fucking-believable experience watching this classic Russian experimental movie. It blew my mind !  Those guys had invented EVERYTHING, from all kinds of editing techniques to framing, angles, depth of shot, multiple screens, etc....This version is even more amazing , thanks to the wonderful music from the Cinematic Orchestra (Edited by Ninjatune)

The Dukes of Hazards, directed by Michael Cimino...(if you don't believe me, there is even the charming Catherine Bach playing a small part). Car chase & country music, fist fights & a final elaborate heist. It's a nice buddy flick from the seventies  but could have been way better with such an amazing cast: Clint, Jeff Bridges, Georges kennedy, even a young Gary Busey ....A weak Cimino but the cinematography is, as usual, very nicely done. Some weird scenes, at time. The crazy rabbit-killer, raccoon-lover redneck scene is one to remember. Jeff bridges as a travestite can also be considered a reward for the most perverted of us.

But after accidentally killing his landlady's cat and covering the body in plaster to hide the evidence, he is acclaimed as a brilliant sculptor - but his new-found friends want to see more of his work.

Very nice Roger Corman horror movie from the 60's. Short and to the point. As usual, Corman knows how to mix intelligently old school horror (it feels more like a "Twilight Zone" or a "Alfred hitchcock presents" episode) and social comment about his time. In this movie, it's all about the Beatnik way of life. Intro is a loooooong beatnik poetry, sort of Slam. The characters in the "café" are very caricatural  but I guess that must be close from the reality of that time. This is also a very harsh comentary about talent: glorified if you got some, dispised by the majority if you lack it. Excellent interpretation by Dick Miller as a mentally disturbed busboy, who desperately wants recognition.

Plot from Imdb: Following a bungled robbery, three violent criminals take a young woman, a middle-aged man, and a child hostage and force them to drive them outside Rome to help them make a clean getaway.

Another little gem, from cult director Mario Bava. The beginning is ok, following in the footsteps of some of the classic italian exploitation crime movies of that period. Not the best action but the energy is there, but the really really good part is the rest of the movie, the escape in the car. There is an incredible tension in thoses scenes, building up from the tension between the kidnappers and the hostages. Some of it is really claustrophobic and seems pretty realistic. The all cast is good, Don Blacky ("blade") is a bit over the top but it works anyway. As usual in Bava's work, the framing is really good, witch is very difficult in a "car thriller". Keoma - Enzo G. Castellari - Italia - (1976)

To make matters worse, Keoma's three half-brothers have joined forces with Caldwell, and make it painfully clear that his return is an unwelcome one. Determined to break Caldwell and his brothers' grip on the town, Keoma partners with his father's former ranch hand to exact violent revenge.

 

A classic Italian Western, directed by Enzo G. Castellari (the original "Inglorious Bastards") with the great Franco Nero as the main character. Great framing and beautiful camera movements. All the technical aspect of the movie are top notch. The use of flashbacks, inserted as a parallel of the action, is really impressive and works well. The cast is excellent & the story has many levels of understanding. Many  references are made to other movies, like Berman's  "the Seventh seal" (the first scene, with the old woman) or Joseph L. Mankiewicz's "Julius Cesar" (the speech about the dead father). An incredible achievement, knowing that Castellari was writing the script and dialogue during the shooting. Only downside is the music, specially the main title song, really dated. Overall an excellent Italian western. A cult classic.
