Dekochari - Crazy Bicycle Tunning - Japan

Let's scare jessica to death - John D. Hancock - USA - (1971)

Plot frm Imdb: "A recently institutionalized woman has bizarre experiences after moving into a supposedly haunted country farmhouse and fears she may be losing her sanity once again."

Saw this movie last night and it's very atmospheric and moody. Nice to see one horror movie that relies extensively on atmosphere and not on gore or "bullshit last minute twist", as so many does nowadays. Apart from this, there is some really creepy moments and you never know if Jessica is mad or if it is a conspiracy against her. The imagery is also very nice, creepy but quite "normal", almost nothing out of the ordinary.  Acting is great ( Zohra Lampert is amazing) and the slow pace creates a sense of time dilatation that let your imagination take the lead. Can't say it was totally satisfactory  but it's a welcome change from the usual contemporary "horror" stuff. Very nice classic 70's horror flick.

The Mack - Michael Campus - USA - (1973)

Plot from Imdb: "Goldie returns from five years at the state pen and winds up king of the pimping game. Trouble comes in the form of two corrupt white cops and a crime lord who wants him to return to the small time."
Great all-time Blaxploitation cult classic ! The dialogues have been sampled one million times by almost every rappers. THe poster is a classic, the costumes are mythical, what to say more ? Well, it is a good movie to begin with. It has a real story, real characters and it holds multiple viewings. Strangely enough, watching this masterpiece now brings a few questions: why was it so popular ? Max Julien acting is top notch but he lacks the basic physical charisma from others greats black stars from that period and there is many "realistic" moments in the movie that makes this story less "entertaining" than the average "black pimp from the ghetto" movie, like "Willie Dynamite" for example. But maybe its is realistic side and the revolutionary message within that still works. Also, if you're a Richard Pryor fan like me, it's a real treat to watch him perform in another dramatic role. Anyway, this is a must-see for any Blaxploitation fan. Can you did it, Bro' ?

Serpiente de mar - aka The Sea Serpent aka Hydra - Amando de Ossorio - Spain - (1984)

Plot from Imdb: "A serpent, created by radioactivity, threatens a Spanish coastal town."

Holy shee-at ! Now,this is what I called utter crap ! It's so bad, I laughed myself to death a few times during this movie (I am not writing this, it's my "zombie-self writing it). It's a shame as De Ossorio was a solid b-movie maker for the Italian's in the 70's. Another victim of the 80's ! Well, let's make it clear, this movie has almost no plot, acting is pathetic, fx are...how to say it...crappy & homemade. There is nothing to save. The only great thing is the fashion of that time (please watch the great fisherman cap of the main character and the "coming from another dimension" suits of the main characters couple (penultimate image)...Don't watch this movie, you'll save a few minutes (fast-forward to the rescue) of your life.

No trailer, but hte end is on youtube (yeah, I know, i'm spoiling you this great suspense):

Red Riding Trilogy - Episode 1983 - Anand Tucker - UK- (2009)

Plot from Imdb: "The seemingly untouchable, corrupt West Yorkshire police, and the true evil mastermind behind the child abductions and murders of the last 14 years, can't resist doing it again. Against them, a fat useless lawyer, and one remorseful copper."

Final chapter of this great tv trilogy, the 1983 delivers ! Once again, it reeks with fears and hypocrisy. To avoid revealing the plot here, let's just say that I was not surprised by the culprit(s) and that it's painfully actual. Anyway, this segment has a better direction that the previous one, with some beautiful shots, handled camera, nice framing, etc...that create a  really oppressing and claustrophobic feeling. Actors are great, once again. Mark Addy does a great job as the small time lawyer, that finally awakens. Wish we had the guts and the talent to do such a great serie in France ! Three Cheers for British TV !
